Lachlan Jarvis is the director of Lyonswood Investigations & Forensic Group. He is an experienced private investigator, security consultant, and Law and Arts graduate based in Sydney, New South Wales. In addition to government-sector experience in fraud detection, Lachlan has a 15-year association with Lyonswood, during which he has helped thousands of clients obtain evidence for peace of mind or for court hearings. Lachlan developed investigative strategies that resulted in successful outcomes in the Supreme Court, including in AS v Murray [2013] NSWSC 733, which helped develop the tort of intimidation. The case was taught to postgraduate law students. He has appeared on Channels 7, 9, and 10, as well as on radio and in print media, providing information to the public about the way in which investigators operate.
As a broad-based investigation firm, Lyonswood has helped Lachlan develop skills across a range of investigative, digital, and security disciplines. In any investigation, one is by definition dealing with the unknown; therefore, being able to synthesise disparate information, data, evidence, legal knowledge, and experience into an investigative outcome is vital. Lachlan agrees with Ray Dalio, founder of the world's largest hedge fund, when he says, "Knowing how to deal well with what you do not know is much more important than anything you do know."
At the start of his career in investigations, Lachlan was lucky enough to learn under the tutelage of the late Warren Mallard, Lyonswood's founder and a well-known investigator. Warren was a former president of the Association of Commercial and Private Inquiry Agents (ACPIA), the National Association of Investigators (NAI), and the Institute of Mercantile Agents (IMA), and also served as the Area Governor for the World Association of Detectives (WAD) and the World Investigators Network (WIN). Warren and Lachlan developed a strong working relationship and friendship, sharing the same dark sense of humour which is a must for this line of work. As any investigator will tell you, it's not an easy job, but nothing beats solving a tough case and getting an outcome for a client in need.
